autumn

last sunday we went for a pretty short hike at our local state park. we haven't been lately because they allow hunting every day but sunday. even so, we still heard gunfire.

we saw deer hair everywhere. i guess from hunters dragging them back to their cars.

we also saw this poor mouse.  i think he had just been killed by a cyclist.  the cyclists can be fairly annoying in this park since the trails are shared.

an osage orange (maclura pomifera)...related to the mulberry and they were once food for a now extinct giant ground sloth. neat, huh? most people just think they're ugly, annoying things.
